TATMADAW columns yesterday regained full control of the Kalewa-Yagyi-Monywa road, a key transport route that had been under the temporary control of insurgent groups. The route is regarded as a vital corridor for India-Myanmar cross-border trade, linking the Tamu-Kalay border trade route with Kalewa, Monywa and central Myanmar, including Mandalay.
On 1 July, Tatmadaw columns regained Myayni village; on 2 July, Sibintha village; on 3 July, Minetaya Taesu village; on 6 July, Thaegyan Taesu village; and on the evening of 7 July, they cooperated with Kalewa security troops to regain full control of the Kalewa-Yagyi-Monywa route. Therefore, people can travel along the Kalewa-Kalay-Falam-Haka-Thantlang, Kalewa-Kalay-Tiddim-Tonzang-Cikha, and Kalewa-Monywa-Myinmu-Sagaing-Mandalay, while India-Myanmar cross-border trade and regional freight transport are expected to proceed without disruption.
Yesterday, the Tatmadaw columns arriving in Kalewa were welcomed by departmental officials and residents with flowers and garlands. — MNA/KTZH
