THE meeting between the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the New Mon State Party (NMSP) was held yesterday morning at the meeting hall of the M Gallery Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the meeting, NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae said the discussion was being held in accordance with the peace invitation extended after the new government took office, noting that although conflicts had occurred in various states since 2021, Mon State had remained stable. He added that the necessary coordination would be provided to support regional development and that matters related to education and healthcare would be referred to the relevant authorities for further coordination, while emphasizing the need for cooperation to maintain regional stability and peace.

Subsequently, NMSP Vice-Chairman Nai Aung Min called for resolving political issues through political means and holding open discussions without preconditions to advance the peace process, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through genuine goodwill, political commitment, and patience, while urging the State to ease restrictions not only in the military and political sectors but also in education, healthcare, regional development, and the economy so that everyone can benefit from the ceasefire. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of open, transparent, and continuous efforts based on mutual trust to move from informal meetings toward substantive, inclusive peace dialogue.

Participants also discussed issues related to education, healthcare, and regional development, including the teaching of Mon literature; the provision of healthcare personnel and medical supplies; the verification of birth records and the issuance of standardized birth certificates in Ye Township, Kyain-Seikkyi Township, the western part of Kawkareik Township (south of the Gyaing River), and villages in northern Yebyu Township, Taninthayi Region; the prioritization of road and bridge construction; and cooperation to maintain regional stability and peace.

Following the discussions, NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing explained and discussed the regional development proposals submitted by the NMSP, the outcomes of previous bilateral meetings, and opportunities for cooperation to promote regional stability. The two sides then reviewed and signed the record of the discussions.
