Nay Pyi Taw recorded a 49.69 per cent pass rate in the 2026 matriculation examination, with 7,021 of 14,131 candidates passing, according to results released nationwide yesterday morning.

Students, parents and teachers gathered at examination centres across the Union Territory from early morning to check the results.

Among the eight townships, Ottarathiri achieved the highest pass rate at 56.40 per cent, followed closely by Pyinmana with 56.37 per cent and Tatkon with 50.40 per cent.

School heads said efforts were already under way to improve next year’s performance. U Win Myint Oo, headmaster of No 5 Basic Education High School, said his school recorded a 42.31 per cent pass rate, with 21 students earning distinctions, including three with distinctions in all six subjects.

“We hope to raise the pass rate further and produce more distinction winners next year,” he said.

Headmistress Daw May Yin Mon of No 6 Basic Education High School said her school achieved a 42.64 per cent pass rate and had begun providing additional tuition to current Grade 12 students from the start of the academic year.

Successful candidates attributed their achievements to consistent study and disciplined preparation. Six-distinction winner student Maung Myat Htet Oo said he revised each day’s lessons immediately after school and repeatedly practised weaker subjects.

“Don’t be intimidated by the Grade 12 examination. Regular revision and practice will help you achieve your best,” he said.

Another top-performing student, Ma Myint Myat Thazin, encouraged future candidates to follow a study timetable while taking care of their health.

“Study calmly, stay organised and avoid unnecessary stress,” she said. — Aye Aye Thant/ST
