MoCRD Union Minister attends 16th ASEAN-China forum on social development and poverty reduction

THE 16th ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction was hosted by the National Rural Revitalization Administration of the People’s Republic of China yesterday morning.

 

The forum was attended by Administrator Mr Lui Huanxin and members of the National Rural Revitalization Administration of China, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe, the ministers, deputy ministers and Senior Officials from Cambodia, Laos and the Philippines and representatives from the International Poverty Reduction Centre in China (IPRCC).

 

During the discussion, the Union minister said that the deadline for ASEAN countries to fully implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan is approaching, adding that in recent years, the pandemic has caused unforeseen challenges and changes which were difficult to deal with.

 

Myanmar is participating in the ASEAN Rural Development and Poverty Eradication Action Plan Framework 2021- 2025, and we have set goals to narrow the development gap between regions and states, and urban and rural areas to achieve sustainable rural development in Myanmar under the guidance of the Union Government, he said.

 

He said the ministry is making every effort in promoting agricultural-based cooperatives and developing rural infrastructure in order to enhance socio-economic development and improve small and medium industries.

 

With the financial support of the Chinese government, the Village Poverty Alleviation Model Project was successfully implemented in 2021. At present, village poverty alleviation project phase II, rural water supply project, rural lighting project and multi-purpose village development projects are being implemented under the Special Cooperation Fund of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation.

 

We also believe that China’s achievements in poverty alleviation can be used as valuable examples for Myanmar’s sustainable rural development, the Union Minister said.

 

To achieve the common goal agreed upon by all of us, Myanmar will continue to cooperate in friendly relations with ASEAN member countries and partner countries. In addition, he said, Myanmar will do its best in cooperation with all partner countries and ASEAN member countries in building a prosperous homeland. — MNA
