THE second day of the meeting to review the peace process between the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the NCA-Signatory Ethnic Armed Organizations (NCA-S EAOs) was held at the M Gallery Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
During the meeting, NSPNC Member Lt-Gen Khin Zaw Oo (Retired) presented and explained a framework for a more inclusive peace process based on the principles and achievements of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). Participants then continued discussions on the remaining issues from the first day of the meeting.
Afterwards, while recording the outcomes of the two-day discussions, participants deliberated on implementing an NCA-based peace process, resolving political issues through political means, facilitating inclusive political dialogue involving relevant stakeholders, arranging meetings between negotiating delegations, and promoting peace, stability, and regional development in areas where EAOs are based. They also discussed providing humanitarian assistance and integrating it with regional development and peacebuilding efforts, securing the cooperation of relevant NCA-S EAOs in organizing community-based discussions and forums in regions and states, obtaining domestic and international technical support, and continuing informal and bilateral meetings.
NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing also delivered remarks on the outcomes of the two-day discussions. He elaborated on continuing the implementation of the peace process based on the principles of the NCA, building mutual trust, facilitating the participation of ethnic armed organizations that have not yet signed the NCA as well as those that have signed but later moved away from the NCA process for various reasons, and pursuing continuous dialogue alongside practical measures to advance the peace process.
Following the two-day negotiations, the common agreements reached during the discussions were formally recorded and signed. Concluding remarks were then delivered by RCSS Secretary 1 Sao Sai Ngin, who is also Head of NCA-S EAOs negotiation team, and NSPNC Chair Lt-Gen Yar Pyae. — MNA/TH
