The Martyrs’ Mausoleum, the Bogyoke Aung San Museum, and the Ministers’ Office (Secretariat Building) were crowded with people who came to pay tribute and express their appreciation for the great contributions and sacrifices of martyrs.
President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing paid tribute to the martyrs at the ceremony to mark the 79th Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day 2026 at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum in Bahan Township, Yangon, yesterday morning.
The President cordially greeted the families of the martyred leaders and guests. The President, together with Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker U Aung Lin Dwe, Chief Justice of the Union U Tha Htay, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo, Central Committee on Organizing the 79th Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day Union Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint, laid a wreath of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at the mausoleum and paid tribute.
Also present at the ceremony were Union ministers, the Yangon Region chief minister, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of the Yangon Command and deputy ministers.
At the event, the flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was lowered to half-mast as a symbol of mourning. The Guard of Honour paid tribute by presenting arms, while the military band sounded the last post in honour of the fallen comrades. They observed a two-minute silence and shared the merits in their memory.
Family members and representatives of the martyred leaders laid wreaths at the mausoleum to pay tribute and share merits gained.
Officials of the Yangon Region government, representatives of political parties, heads of foreign embassies to Myanmar and charges d’affaires ad interim also laid wreaths at the mausoleum and paid tribute.
Representatives from social and religious organizations laid wreaths at the mausoleum to pay tribute to General Aung San and martyred leaders.
Members of the Sangha, students and people lined up in an orderly manner to pay tribute in remembrance and appreciation for the great contributions and sacrifices of the martyred leaders.
On the occasion of the 79th Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day 2026, the flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was flown at half-mast nationwide as a symbol of mourning. At 10:37 am, the time when the martyrs were assassinated, Myanma Radio and Television and Myawady Television sounded the siren as a mark of respect.
People also visited the Martyrs’ Mausoleum, the Bogyoke Aung San Museum, and the Ministers’ Office (Secretariat Building) to pay their respects and learn more about these historic sites.— MNA/TTA
