Pwintbyu, July 16

The Township Department of Agriculture will plant 1,121 acres of sunflowers in this year’s rainy season in Pwint Phyu Township, Minbu District, Magway Region.

The Township has planned to cultivate 1,046 acres of sunflowers in this year’s rainy season, and planting began in June, and as of now, 1,121 acres have been cultivated.

To help sunflower farmers in Pwintbyu Township expand cultivation and increase yields during this year's rainy season, the Department of Agriculture is conducting field visits to provide technical guidance on the use of high-quality, certified sunflower seeds suitable for the local area, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and effective pest and disease management.

Increasing sunflower production will not only help meet local edible oil demand but also generate income and improve socio-economic conditions through surplus sales. Therefore, efforts to expand sunflower cultivation are important, said Daw Moe Moe Wai, Staff Officer of the Township Agriculture Department.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
