MYANMAR’S maize is primarily conveyed to Thailand and the Philippines, and India also imports it as per the market’s demand. Myanmar shipped about 100,000 tonnes of maize to foreign trade partners this financial year 2026-2027, said Dr Phyo Ko Ko Naing, General Secretary of the Myanmar Corn Industrial Association.
Myanmar aims to meet a 1.3 million tonnes maize export target in the current FY.
“Myanmar’s maize is also exported to the region beyond the leading importing country, Thailand. Thailand also offers a good price. Myanmar will try to scale export volume to other countries,” he added.
The prevailing maize price is higher than that of last year. At present, maize fetches 11.7 baht per kilogramme, up from 10 baht registered in the corresponding period last year. Myanmar delivered 1.3 million tonnes of maize last FY 2025-2026, the association stated. — ASH/KK
