Eight households in Letpankyun Village, Paung Township, Mon State, were evacuated after severe riverbank erosion caused by heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Thanlwin River.
The evacuation was carried out under the supervision of Township Management and Administration Committee Chairman U Htin Lin Aung. The village administrator and local officials assisted residents in relocating to the homes of nearby relatives.
Located in the Gulf of Mottama area, Letpankyun Village faces annual riverbank erosion and land collapse during the rainy season due to heavy rainfall and the swelling waters of the Thanlwin River, forcing residents to temporarily leave their homes each year.— Mon Malay (IPRD)
