A traditional Myanma Lethwei team led by Dr Myat Thin Khine departed for Tokyo via Thailand on Myanmar Airways International flight at 9 pm yesterday to compete in the Knock Out Muay Thai event in Japan. Officials from the Traditional Myanmar Lethwei Federation and the Myanmar Muay Federation saw the team off at Yangon International Airport.
In the competition on 15 May, Super Yay Chan will face a Thai fighter in the 63-kilogramme division, Saw Ba Hein will take on a Japanese fighter in the 63-kilogramme division, and Daung Mike Thway will compete against a Japanese opponent in the 51-kilogramme division.
Two coaches, Kyel Sin Phyo and Hanthawady Thar, also accompanied the team to teach traditional Lethwei in Japan for one year. — Bala/KZL
