Pantaung 20 March
Cultivation of summer paddy is being conducted with the systematic use of irrigation water in Pantaung Township, Pyay District, Bago Region.
A total of 1,450 acres of summer paddy are being cultivated using six water pumping systems from the river and irrigation water from two dams. So far, 1,023 acres have been cultivated and efforts are being made to meet the target.
Local farmers are widely using drum seeders for cultivation in addition to traditional transplanting methods. Furthermore, planting with drum seeders reduces time and labor and helps ensure accurate seed distribution while improving agricultural productivity, according to the local farmers.
In addition, due to the effective utilization of river water and irrigation water, summer paddy cultivation has expanded to ensure local consumption. The Township Department of Agriculture is providing technical assistance to increase the yield rate of summer paddy.
