THE Myanmar U17 women’s national team suffered a 2-0 defeat to the India U17 side in their first friendly match ahead of the 2026 AFC U17 Women’s Championship, held on 12 March 2026 at the Thuwunna Youth Training Centre.
Following their successful AFC qualifying campaign, Myanmar’s young squad played their first international friendly but could not find the net, conceding two goals in the first half. India opened the scoring in 38 minutes through Preethika, who added a second goal in 49 minutes.
With just over 40 days of preparation before the main tournament, Myanmar’s U17 team is still developing their tactical sharpness and match fitness to compete for a place beyond the group stage. Despite pressuring India early on, the team could not convert opportunities into goals.
The second friendly match between Myanmar U17 and India U17 will be held at 5 pm on 14 March 2026 at the Thuwunna Youth Training Centre. — Shine Htet Zaw/KZL
