A ceremony to hand over footballs to the Ministry of Education under the FIFA-supported Football for Schools Programme of the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) was held yesterday afternoon at Hotel Max.
The event was attended by Union Minister for Education Dr Chaw Chaw Sein, Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee and Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and for Hotels and Tourism Jeng Phang Naw Taung, Chairman of the FIFA Social Responsibility Committee and MFF President U Zaw Zaw, directors-general, MFF officials, administrators, coaches and players from the Myanmar national men’s and women’s football teams, as well as teachers and students from basic education high schools.
The ceremony began with the screening of a documentary video on the Grassroots Football Festival organized by the Myanmar Football Federation under the guidance of FIFA.
In her address, Union Minister Dr Chaw Chaw Sein said that the Football for Schools Programme, an international initiative of FIFA involving more than 200 countries, contributes significantly to the implementation of national goals aimed at strengthening the education and health sectors for sustainable development. She noted that sport plays an important role in enhancing both education and health, and expressed appreciation to the President and officials of the Myanmar Football Federation for donating Adidas footballs provided through FIFA’s Football for Schools initiative. The ministry, she added, will work closely with the Myanmar Football Federation as well as relevant ministries and organizations to ensure the successful implementation of the programme in schools across the country.
During the ceremony, Union Minister Jeng Phang Naw Taung and MFF President U Zaw Zaw handed over 42,760 Adidas footballs to Union Minister Dr Chaw Chaw Sein and Director-General U Kyaw Swa Thwin.
Following the presentation, union ministers, deputy ministers and officials watched a friendly mini-football match played by Myanmar national team players together with students. — MNA/KZL
