A total of 29 Chinese nationals involved in online fraud and other criminal activities were transferred to the relevant country via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II, in accordance with legal procedures, humanitarian considerations and bilateral friendship.

The individuals had illegally entered Myanmar through border routes after transiting neighbouring countries, including Thailand, and had committed illegal online gambling, online fraud and other criminal activities in the Myawady-Shwe Kokko area of Kayin State. The transfer was carried out by the authorities in line with established laws and procedures.

To ensure that the deportation process was systematic and smooth, Lt-Col San Shwe, a member of the Myawady District Administration and Management Committee, together with responsible officials, coordinated with relevant departments to verify lists and information for accuracy and completeness and made the necessary arrangements.

Subsequently, a handover ceremony was held and attended by Deputy Director U Kyaw Kyaw Than, of the Ministry of District Immigration and Population, officials from the People’s Republic of China, including Mr Gao Yuan, a director from the Public Security Department of Shandong Province, and responsible officials from the Tak Province Immigration Office of Thailand. Myanmar officials systematically handed over official documents related to the deportation to the relevant authorities.

The Government of Myanmar is actively cooperating with neighbouring and regional countries, as well as international organizations, to identify, arrest and take effective action against those involved in online scam centres, including foreign nationals operating behind the scenes. At the same time, the State continues to coordinate efforts to expedite the repatriation of foreign nationals facing difficulties for various reasons, as well as victims of human trafficking, to their respective countries. — MNA/KZL
