The explosion occurred at around noon on 9 October as the monk, Venerable Bhaddanta Tesantiya, was travelling to Yaypu Monastery. About 450 metres west of Yaypu Village, he accidentally triggered the landmine, resulting in injuries.

Security forces quickly transported the injured monk to Kamamoung Hospital for treatment.
