Illegal teak logs, vehicle seized

THE Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee focuses on strict control of illegal trade under the law. 

On 26 February, the Chin State Forest Department conducted inspections under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force and seized 0.9088 tonne of illegal Kanyin (Dipterocarpus alatus) worth K74,521 in Paletwa Township of Mindat District, and took action under the Forest Law. 

On 27 February, the Customs Department of the Yaypu checkpoint in Shan State also confiscated K8,323,200 worth of illegal teak (2.7744 tonnes) and one Mitsubishi Fuso vehicle worth K50 million that carried this illegal wood. The officials took action under the Forest Law. Similarly, the Bago Region Forest Department and combined inspection teams seized 4.4560 tonnes of timbers worth K356,320 in the forest reserve of Thayawady District on 28 February and took action under the Forest Law. 

Moreover, the Mon State Forest Department seized 4.9241 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K186,590 in the Kyaikhtiyoe forest reserve in Thaton District and took action under the Forest Law. Therefore, a total of five arrests (estimated value of K58,940,361) was made on 26, 27 and 28 February, according to the committee. — MNA
