The University Football Tournament 2019 (lower Myanmar zone) will start on 25 October, according to a coordination meeting held yesterday by the football authorities in Yangon.
The tourney will be sponsored by Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) and will be supervised by the Department of Higher Myanmar Education along with the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) and the Myanmar National League (MNL).
Yesterday's meeting was attended by officials from the MFF, MNL, the Department of Higher Myanmar Education, and administrators and instructors from participating teams.
The tourney will include both men’s and women’s events.
The men's football event will be held from 25 October to 20 November at the University Stadium and Padonmar Stadium.
The women's football event will be held from 26 October to 20 November at the same venues at different play times, according to the meeting.
In the men's event, there are nine teams divided into two groups: Group A and B.
Group A comprises Dagon Zone team, Pyay Zone team, Sittway Zone team, Yangon (West) Zone team, and Taun-goo Zone team.
Meanwhile, Pathein Zone, Mawlamyaing Zone, Yangon (East) Zone, and Yangon Zone have been placed in Group B.
In the women's event, nine teams have been divided into Group A and B.
Dagon Zone, Pyay Zone, Yangon (East) Zone, Mawlamyaing Zone, and Yangon Zone have been placed in Group A, while Pathein Zone, Yangon (West) Zone, Taungoo Zone, and Sittway Zone are in Group B.
With the aim of improving Myanmar football standards, the same tourney was conduct-ed for the upper Myanmar zone and it concluded in Mandalay on 22 October. Host Mandalay Zone team won the tourney.
