Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye made a videoconference with the members of Kachin Government, and President Reverend Hkalam Samson and members of the Kachin Baptist Church about implementing resettlement of internally displaced persons in the region.
The Union Minister said the IDP resettlement implementation working group, formed on 8 May 2019 with the order of President Office, is coordinating with the Kachin Humanitarian Concern Committee, led by the church leaders, for the closures of IDP camps and their resettlement, together with education, health, employment and issuing family registration and national registration cards for them. He added that the agreement on their resettlement has been included in the resolutions of Union Peace Conference-21st Century Panglong. The KBC is implementing the resettlement of IDPs with the support of the Nippon Foundation, and that the vocation training programmes for women should be included in this processes in line the guidelines of the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre, the Union Minister advised, and called for the cooperation of 11 women committees in Nay Pyi Taw Council and other areas. The KBC has received US$ 5 million from the Japanese government and the Nippon Foundation and is working for the resettlement of 183 IDP families. The Deputy Minister and the members of Kachin State government also discussed the needs for initial phase of resettlement such as food and water supplies and clean environments.—MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
