UNION Minister for In­formation U Htein Linn met personnel from de­partments under the Ministry of Information, including the Informa­tion and Public Relations Department, the Depart­ment of Printing and Publishing, the Depart­ment of Media Devel­opment and Promotion, and the News and Peri­odical Enterprise, at the Printing and Publishing Department Headquar­ters on Theinbyu Road, Botahtaung Township, Yangon, yesterday.

 

The meeting was attended by the Yangon Region minister for In­formation, Relief and Religious Affairs, as well as departmental officials and staff members.

 

The Union minister spoke on the occasion that the Ministry must serve as the “eyes and ears” of the State, keep­ing the public informed about government activi­ties. He emphasized that news reporting should be based on solid evidence and that, as a State-owned media organi­zation, it should uphold the interests and expec­tations of the State while working collectively to achieve its objectives.

 

Earlier in the morn­ing, the Union minister met Myanmar Press Council Chair Dr Tin Tun Oo and council members at the meeting hall of the Printing and Publishing Enterprise.

 

At the meeting, Un­ion Minister U Htein Linn noted that in the digital age, information must be disseminated in a timely manner and stressed the importance of joint efforts to combat fake news and misinfor­mation. He added that the Myanmar Press Council should provide recommendations in connexion with the forth­coming media law and should also plan to or­ganize media workshops and meetings.

 

Subsequently, the chairman and members of the Myanmar Press Council discussed the council’s ongoing activ­ities and issues related to media development, after which the Union minister delivered con­cluding remarks. — MNA/MKKS
