The Badminton World Federation (BWF) yesterday announced that Myanmar Badminton star player Thet Htar Thuzar will be able to compete in the badminton event of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in Japan.

According to the BWF, Thet Htar Thuzar will compete in the women’s singles event, which has 42 competitors.

“The dream that I have been waiting for many years has come true. I was actually allowed to enter the Olympics. I hope the news will raise all the spirits of my fans. I’ll try to be the best representative for all the people of Myanmar. The success of Thet Htar is the success of all the Myanmar people,”Thet Htar Thuzar said.

Thet Thar Thuzar has not competed in international competitions since March 2020 due to the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She has competed in a total of 15 events during the Olympic Qualifiers and has been trying to qualify for the Olympics for the past few years.

Since 2018, she has won eight Badminton World Federation (BWF) tournaments.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) on 5 July announced the shortlist of national badminton players including Thet Htar Thuzar for the Tokyo Olympics. There are 87 male and 86 female badminton players representing each country for the Olympic tourney. —GNLM
