Thet Htar Thuzar crashes out of Kenya International Series 2020

Myanmar badminton star Thet Htar Thuzar was knocked out of the Kenya International Series 2020 at the quarterfinal stage of the tournament, which is being held at the Shree Swaminarayan Academy, Mombasa, Kenya.

In the quarterfinal match yesterday, Thet Htar Thuzar suffered a 2-1 loss against Indian badminton player Aakarshi Kashyap, ending her dream of winning the Kenya International Series for the second time.

Thet Htar Thuzar had won the 2019 edition of the Kenya International Series with a 2-0 win over Jordan badminton player Domo Amro in the final.

On 29 February, in the Round 2 match of the Kenya International Series 2020, Thet Htar Thuzar had secured a decisive 2-0 win over Kenya’s Kivisi Andia. In the Round 1 match on 28 February, Thet Htar Thuzar had upset Pakistan’s Palawasha Bashir by a decisive 2-0 result.

Thet Htar Thuzar, whose current world ranking is 61, is preparing to compete in the women’s singles competition in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She has been participating in international badminton tournaments to collect points for ensuring a place in the Olympics. —Lynn Thit (Tgi)
