EUGENIA graft, which is one of the flowers offered to Buddha, has received many orders from Thailand and local demand has been good too, according to Eugenia growers.
“We export Eugenia to overseas market too. There are many orders from Myanmar nationals in Thailand. The demand has been pretty good now. Eugenia is also produced in Myawady. Eugenia farms receive orders from Thailand as well as other countries,” said an Eugenia wholesaler from Pobbathiri township in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. Sales are expected to be better in coming months, according to Eugenia farmers.
“This is the peak season. Sales of Eugenia were slow last dry season. But from this March, sales will be active until April and May. Most of our customers buy Eugenia to make offerings to the Buddha. We sell wholesales only,” said the wholesaler.
Among other flowers, Eugenia graft is more durable, that is why it is one of the best selling flowers, and the sprig lasts for a few months just by changing water in the vase.
At present, depending on the size and variety, the price of a graft of Eugenia starts from K200 to the maximum K3,000, according to Eugenia growers in Nay Pyi Taw. Eugenia is a perennial tree and can be cut in two years of planting, and it brings many benefits to farmers, said Eugenia farmers. — Thit Taw/ZS
