S.Korea prosecutors seek arrest warrant for Cho

23 December

South Korean prosecutors are seeking an arrest warrant for former Justice Minister Cho Kuk on allegations of abuse of power.

South Korean media report that the presidential office is alleged to have illegally terminated an investigation into a bribery case involving a former vice mayor of Busan.

Cho was head of the presidential office's civil affairs division, which oversees probes into corruption cases.

Cho has reportedly been questioned by prosecutors over the case.

Cho stepped down as justice minister in October amid a series of scandals involving himself and his family.

The allegations involved questionable investments and preferential treatment for his children in getting into prestigious schools.

The move by prosecutors to seek a warrant for Cho is expected to further hurt sentiment toward President Moon Jae-in, who appointed Cho to senior government posts.
