Shan State Special Region 4 celebrates 30th anniversary in Mongla

The 30th anniversary of Special Region 4 was held at the peace square in Mongla, Shan State, on 30 June.

A Union Government delegation led by Peace Commission Vice Chairman U Thein Zaw, delegations from ethnic armed organizations, political parties, ethnic peoples and specially invited guests attended the event.

The opening ceremony commenced at 6 am with a parade of ethnic cultural troupes, regional groups, local students, department personnel and ceremonial vehicles marching along.

The flag hoisting ceremony came next with the Union Flag, Shan State Flag and Special Region 4 Flag raised and saluted by the attendees as the marching band played the national anthem.

Afterwards, U Sai Lin, Chairman of the Peace and Solidarity Committee (PSC), gave welcoming remarks and U Thein Zaw read the State Counsellor’s Message of Greetings on the Special Region’s anniversary. This was followed by other attendees and organizations reading messages to commemorate the anniversary.

Next, attendees released doves to signify peace and PSC formally thanked the attendees before concluding the ceremony.

Later at night, the guests were treated to traditional ethnic dances and songs. —MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
