Seintalone (Diamond Solitaire) mango growers said they are getting a better price for their mangoes this season due to a huge demand in the Bogale market of Ayeyawady Region.
“A box of 10 mangoes was priced at K3,750 during the first week of the 2018 harvest season (from September to October) in Bogale Township. Meanwhile, a box of mangoes was fetching up to K5,500 at the end of September this year,” said U Kyaw Soe, a mango trader from Bogale Township.
Markets in Yangon and Pathein towns are major purchasers of Seintalone mangoes from Bogale. At present, growers said they are cultivating Senitalone mangoes with the aim to get a stable local market.
“As Seintalone mangoes are fetching high prices in the mango market, traders need to build a stable market for them. Currently, Seintalone mangoes are sent mainly to Yangon and Pathein, and I have cultivated 800 mango trees, as the mangoes grow well in the season and they are highly demanded in the market,” said U Zin Min, a grower from Bogale Township.
Growers from Bogale Township usually cultivate from 100 to 1,500 Seintalone mango trees and a total of eight villages have Seintalone mango plantations in the township.
