River bank erosion forces seventeen families to relocate safer areas in Ngathainchaung

Due to riverbank erosion at Ngawan River near Paikthaung ferry port in Ngawan Ward in the Town of Ngathaingchaung, Yekyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region forced seventeen households in riverine communities to relocate to safer areas.

 

There has been strong overflowing of Ngawan River in the Town of Ngathaingchaung due to heavy rain on 27 May leading to the evacuation of 17 households. The riverbank has been eroded by Ngawan River in the Town.

 

Officials including chairman of the Township Administration Council U Than Win, Administrator of Ngathaingchaung and departmental officials urgently went to the incident and evacuated victims of riverbank erosion from 17 families to the safer places in Ngawan Ward in the town of Ngathaingchaung.

 

But no casualties were reported. Seventeen houses worth Ks.1.7 million were demolished and evacuated to the safer areas in the Town.—Soe Min Oo(IPRD)
