Kyunhla, 13 May
Kyunhla Township in Kanbalu District, Sagaing Region—known for cultivating various seasonal oilseed crops—has begun planting rain-fed peanuts for this year, according to local farmers.
“In Kyunhla Township, we grow peanuts—an oilseed crop—during both the rainy and winter seasons. This year, we’ve planted five acres of peanuts. The cost of seeds, plowing, and labor is around K.350,000. Last year, we planted peanuts in the winter and saved seeds from that harvest, which helped us make a profit,” said U Nay Lin, a peanut farmer from Shansu Village.
The Township Agriculture Department is providing farmers with on-site training focused on selecting peanut varieties suitable for the local climate, as well as proper planting methods and best agricultural practices.
This year, peanuts are being cultivated as a rainy season oilseed crop in Kyunhla Township. Additionally, the Township Agriculture Department has allocated 7,314 acres for the cultivation of sesame and sunflower.— Myo Win Nyo (Kyunhla)
