Over 8000 acres of paddy fields submerged by floodwater in Bhamo Tsp

Due to recent torrential rains in the source of the Ayarwaddy River, the river has risen up to 1222 cm exceeding its danger level in Bhamo town of Myanmar’s northern Kachin state, flooding over 10000 acres of monsoon paddy fields in the Bhamo district.

 

The swollen Ayarwaddy River flooded 8560 acres of farmlands belonging to 2756 farmers from 31 wards and villages in Bhamo township, affecting local people with their homes submerged, according to a statement by the township farmland management committee.  

8203 acres of paddy fields belonging to 2648 farmers and 348 acres of corn fields belonging to 105 farmers from 31 villages in Bhamo Township were inundated by floodwater triggered by the swollen Ayarwaddy river.

 

Similarly, 5759 acres of farmlands owned by 1758 farmers in eight village-tracts in Shwegu Township, 36 acres of farmlands owned by six farmers in Myohla town and 504 acres of monsoon paddy fields owned by 115 farmers in the township of Mansi were submerged by surging Ayarwaddy river waters.

           

Flash flood caused by the Ayarwaddy River submerged a total of 14850 acres of farmlands in Bhamo district, affecting at least 4632 far farmers. —Myo Myint Soe ( IPRD)
