Nay Pyi Taw, July 9
Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation seized 80.1452 tonnes of illegal timber across Nay Pyi Taw, states and regions between 29 June and 5 July, according to the department.
The seizures included 31.58 tonnes of illegal teak, 13.72 tonnes of hardwood and 34.83 tonnes of other timber. Authorities also confiscated one vehicle or piece of machinery used in the illegal activities and arrested three suspects.
The department said it continues to combat illegal logging and forest-product trafficking through various measures, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) with public participation.— MNA
