THE meeting between the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Nego­tiation Committee (NSP­NC) and the Arakan Lib­eration Party (ALP) was held yesterday morning in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the meeting, NSP­NC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae said that discus­sions had already been held with the NCA-Sig­natory EAOs Negotiation Team on the next steps in the peace process. He stated that the door remains open for peace talks with any organiza­tion and that discussions with the NCA-Signatory EAOs Negotiation Team would continue. Bilateral meetings would also be conducted with individ­ual organizations, and their needs would be ad­dressed in coordination with the relevant minis­tries in accordance with the respect policies.

ALP Chairperson Saw Mra Yaza Lin said the talks were being held so that the people could live in peace. She said the party had followed the path of peace since 2010 and had taken a leading role throughout the implementation of the Nationwide Cease­fire Agreement (NCA). The party has continued working for peace until today. The discussions were aimed at ending conflict and that the time had come to work towards building a Union based on democracy and a federal system, in line with the political goals set out in the NCA. She also said that now is a good oppor­tunity to move the peace process forward and that the party will continue its efforts to achieve lasting and sustainable peace for the benefit of the people.

The participants dis­cussed matters relating to building a Union based on democracy and a fed­eral system in line with political outcomes, coop­erating with the govern­ment and the Tatmadaw to promote peace, stabili­ty, and development, pre­venting actions that could undermine mutual trust, improving the livelihoods of people currently in Sit­tway Township, Rakhine State, and Ayeyawady Region and delivering humanitarian assistance.
