NLD HQ organizes 72nd Martyrs’ Day ceremony

Remembering Bogyoke Aung San and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, a ceremony commemorating the 72nd anniversary of Martyrs’ Day was held at the headquarters of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Bahan Township yesterday.

 

Before the ceremony, NLD members, students and the general public observed a moment of silence in front of the building at 10:37 am, the time at which the Martyrs were assassinated.

 

The ceremony then began and attendees first saluted the State Flag, Bogyoke Aung San and the martyred leaders and observed eight seconds of silence for all the lives sacrificed during the democracy movement.

 

Next, NLD Central Executive Committee (CEC) secretariat member U Nyan Win delivered the opening speech and CEC member Dr Myo Nyunt read the announcement for the 72nd Martyrs’ Day and other messages sent to the ceremony.

 

The ceremony was attended by the CEC and other members of the NLD, Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker U Tin Maung Tun, foreign diplomats and invited guests. The NLD also released a six-point communique at yesterday’s ceremony. —Zaw Gyi
