THE 2024 Fifth National Sports Festival group-stage competi­tions are continuing in Nay Pyi Taw. These matches are being held at designated sports ven­ues across the city, starting yes­terday morning.

 

In the men’s under-20 vol­leyball matches, Shan State defeated Rakhine State 3-0, Kachin State triumphed over Ayeyawady Region 3-2, and Bago Region won against Chin State 3-0. In the women’s volley­ball category, Shan State beat Nay Pyi Taw 3-0, while Tanin­thayi Region secured a 3-0 vic­tory against Rakhine State.

 

Similarly, men’s futsal matches were held at Wunna Theikdi Futsal Stadium, where Shan State defeated Mon State 2-1. Sagaing Region and Mag­way Region each scored three goals in their respective match­es, and Yangon Region over­came Nay Pyi Taw 4-0. Manda­lay Region claimed a dominant 9-0 victory over Chin State, Kachin State defeated Kayah State 6-0, and Taninthayi Region edged Ayeyawady Region 3-1.

 

Afternoon futsal matches in the women’s category saw Nay Pyi Taw beat Shan State 2-1, Rakhine State and Mandalay Region draw 0-0, and Sagaing Region secure a 4-2 victory against Ayeyawady Region.

 

Under-23 basketball games took place at Shwekyapin In­door Stadium. Sagaing Region beat Nay Pyi Taw with a score of 80-46, Mandalay Region out­played Taninthayi Region 94- 27, Kayin State triumphed over Bago Region 65-43, and Kayah State defeated Mon State 58-48. Yangon Region crushed Mag­way Region 82-17.

 

In the under-21 men’s foot­ball competition, Nay Pyi Taw and Shan State ended in a 1-1 draw, while Kayah State se­cured a 2-0 win against Kayin State.

 

The under-25 women’s football matches took place in Bawgawadi and Lewe, where Magway Region defeated Kayin State 1-0 and Kachin State tri­umphed over Nay Pyi Taw 3-1.

 

The inter-ministerial men’s football matches were also held at various venues, with the Min­istry of Home Affairs winning 4-0 against the Ministry of Re­ligious Affairs and Culture. The Ministry of Social Welfare, Re­lief, and Resettlement achieved a 1-0 victory over the Ministry of Transport and Communi­cations, while the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Devel­opment defeated the Ministry of Science and Technology 3-0.

 

The festival includes six inter-ministerial sports cate­gories and 23 regional/state sports, featuring disciplines like volleyball, futsal, and basketball. Four para-sports are also being held, with competitions contin­uing daily at various venues. — MNA/KZL
