DEPUTY Minister for Social Wel­fare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Than Soe presided over the 33rd Myanmar-Thailand Case Man­agement Meeting on the Re­patriation and Reintegration of Victims of Trafficking and Review Meeting on Bilateral Standard Operating Procedures yesterday at the Parkroyal Hotel in Yangon.

 

Speaking at the event, the deputy minister stated that My­anmar and Thailand have been cooperating in combatting hu­man trafficking since signing a Memorandum of Understanding on 19 April 2009. Both countries have worked together on preven­tion efforts and the protection and care of trafficking victims.

 

Myanmar also actively col­laborates with Thailand and oth­er regional countries, achieving positive results despite ongoing challenges. He highlighted the importance of cooperation be­tween the two countries to short­en the rehabilitation period for victims and to help them secure sustainable livelihoods.

 

Ms Sunee Srisangatrakull­ert, head of the Thai delegation, stated that Thailand is providing the best possible assistance to trafficking victims and will contin­ue working closely with Myanmar to combat human trafficking and minimize harm to victims.

 

Compensation amounting to 45,000 baht, received for one traf­ficking victim repatriated from Thailand, was handed over to the concerned individual.

 

The meeting was attended by representatives from minis­tries concerned and organiza­tions of Myanmar and Thailand. The meeting will continue on 24 March. — MNA/KTZH
