MYANMAR’S pulses export exceeded two million tonnes in the ten months of the current financial year, beginning 1 April. Pulses export income is aimed to reach US$2 billion, said Chairperson U Ohn Sai of the Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association.
“Myanmar’s pulses export target is over 3.2 million tonnes for the 2025-2026 financial year. The export volume has surpassed over 2.4 million tonnes so far. Around 700,000 tonnes remain to meet the target volume. We expect to earn approximately $450 million to $500 million in the last two months (February-March) of this FY,” he explained.
Myanmar’s pulse exports have penetrated over 57 countries. Nonetheless, the pulses are conveyed to only 48 countries at present. To apply for an export licence of various pulses (maize, sesame seeds, peanuts and beans), member companies of the association need to fill in the Excel File (MPBMSMA-Export Licence Endorsement) accordingly, and a soft copy must be sent to [email protected] in advance. They first seek a recommendation letter from the association by providing the necessary documents prior to obtaining a licence, according to the Ministry of Commerce. — ASH/KK
