MYANMAR’S first-ever Traditional Food Competition and Exhibition 2026, held under the theme “Taste of the Golden Land 2026”, concluded in Yangon after highlighting the country’s culinary heritage and its potential to boost international tourism.

The two-day event, organized by the Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture and supervised by the Myanmar Restaurant Association, took place at the Yangon Convention Centre on 25 and 26 July. It aimed to promote Myanmar’s traditional cuisine on the international stage, encourage culinary tourism, and strengthen the country’s food and beverage industry.

On the second day, participants showcased Myanmar’s traditional dishes prepared and presented to international standards. Representatives from the Myanmar Tea Association and the Myanmar Coffee Association delivered presentations on their respective sectors, while industry experts held a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing the food and beverage industry. The programme also featured cocktail-making demonstrations using locally produced Myanmar ingredients.

Deputy Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Phyo Zaw Soe, accompanied by officials from the Myanmar Restaurant Association and restaurant entrepreneurs from regions and states across the country, toured the exhibition and observed the second day’s activities.

The inaugural competition attracted seven competing teams, while 120 exhibition booths displayed and sold traditional food products and related items. The event drew large crowds of visitors who came to explore, purchase and support Myanmar’s traditional cuisine, reflecting strong public interest in promoting the country’s culinary heritage. — MNA/ST
