Myanmar rice exports cross 62,000 tonnes in June

Myanmar conveyed a total of 62,725 tonnes of rice and bro­ken rice to foreign countries through maritime and border trade channels in June of the current financial year 2023-2024, comprising 27,569 tonnes of rice and 35,156 tonnes of broken rice, the Myanmar Rice Federation’s statistics showed.

 

Myanmar sent 58,001 tonnes of rice and broken rice by sea and 4,724 tonnes via the border last month.

 

Myanmar shipped 261,079 tonnes of rice and broken rice worth US$112 million in the Q1 of the current FY.

 

MRF aimed to achieve 2.5 million tonnes of robust rice ex­port in the current FY, generat­ing an income of US$1 billion.

 

Myanmar exported 2,261,203 tonnes of rice and broken rice to foreign trade partners in the past 2022-2023 FY (April-March), bagging $853.472 million.

 

Myanmar primarily sent rice and broken rice to China (over 775,000 tonnes), followed by Belgium (323,000 tonnes), Bang­ladesh (239,000 tonnes) and the Philippines (202,000 tonnes).

 

Myanmar has been exert­ing concerted efforts to grow 10 percent yearly in the rice export sector. To raise foreign income, it has been prioritizing exportation of high-grade rice and boosting export volume, MRF stated.

 

Myanmar swelled to over $809.135 million from 2,164,681 tonnes of rice export in the 2021- 2022 FY. — NN/EM
