HOST Myanmar national football team lost to Indonesian team 0-1 in the first match of Group B in the ASEAN Cup 2024 held on 9 December.
Myanmar could manage the best response to attacks of the Indonesian team but it missed chances to transform deserved opportunities into goals. The host lost to the guest due to a goal conceded in the second half. As such, Myanmar missed its chance to secure at least one point from a draw.
Some foreign clubs did not send Myanmar players to the group match while the Myanmar national team temporarily removed injured players from the lineup. Hence, the Myanmar team deployed goalkeeper Zin Nyi Nyi Aung together with other players Hein Phyo Win, Thet Hein Soe, Thiha Htet Aung, Nanda Kyaw, Zaw Win Thein, Wai Lin Aung, Lwin Moe Aung, Thiha Zaw, Maung Maung Lwin and Aung Kaung Marn.
From the start to 30 minutes, Myanmar could impose pressure on Indonesia one-sidedly. During the period, Lwin Moe Aung, Aung Kaung Marn, Thiha Zaw and Nanda Kyaw wasted opportunities in their kicks missing the net. After 30 minutes, Indonesia threatened the goalmouth of the Myanmar team.
In the second half, both teams used some substituted players to raise their tempos. But, Myanmar conceded a single goal to Indonesia in 76 minutes. Myanmar keeper Zin Nyi Nyi Aung was unable to save the kick of Indonesia’s captain.
In Laos, Vietnam thrashed Laos 4-1. Myanmar will play against the Philippines at away match as the second group match on 12 December. — Ko Nyi Lay/TTA
