ACCORDING to salt producers in Mon State, arrangements are being made to export salt produced in the state to South Korea.

At present, a specific salt field is being set aside and operated on a trial basis in order to meet export requirements for the South Korean market.

“We are currently making preparations to export to Korea. We still need to see whether we can meet their requirements. For now, we are testing with one salt field for the Korean market, and their representatives have been visiting to inspect it. That is the current stage we are at.

‘‘In 2023, we exported one container to Japan as a sample. It was taken on a trial basis, but there have been no further orders. It may have been for testing purposes. Since they have not requested additional shipments, we have to conclude that it was not successful,” said a salt producer from Mon State.

In Mon State, more than 45,000 tonnes of salt are produced from over 4,700 acres of salt fields every year. Salt production in Ayeyawady Region, Rakhine State and Mon State is mainly carried out using the solar evaporation method. — ASH/MKKS
