MoFA Union Minister receives special envoy of ASEAN Chair

UNION Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar received Mr Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and special envoy of the ASEAN Chair at 4:30 pm on 30 June 2022 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the meeting, the Union minister exchanged views with the special envoy on the ongoing implementation of the five-point consensus, and way forward in delivering humanitarian assistance to Myanmar in cooperation with the AHA Centre, current ASEAN Chair, and the ASEAN Secretariat.

 

He also highlighted the government’s entire effort for cessation of violence, achieving lasting peace in the whole country designating 2022 as a peace year, and the recent development of the peace talks with Ethnic Armed Organizations-EAOs as the priorities of the Myanmar government.

 

The Union minister reiterated that Myanmar is committed to continuing its cooperation with ASEAN in implementing the five-point consensus based on the ASEAN Charter and the basic principles of the ASEAN.

 

He underscored the importance of mutual understanding and adherence to the principles of the ASEAN Charter by all ASEAN Member States.

 

Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the meeting.

 

Later in the evening, the Union minister hosted dinner for the special envoy of the ASEAN Chair at the Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. — MNA
