Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy have won the right to jointly host the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
The Milan-Cortina bid saw off a challenge from Sweden's cities of Stockholm and Are in a vote by International Olympic Committee members in the Swiss city of Lausanne on Monday.
The Italian bid won 47 votes, while the Stockholm- Are bid received 34.
It will be the second time for Cortina d'Ampezzo to stage a Winter Olympics, following the one held in 1956. And this will mark the fourth time Italy has hosted summer or winter Olympics.
The Milan-Cortina bid was praised for securing support from both the central and local governments.
An earlier poll showed that the proposal had a public support rate of 83 percent, more than 20 points higher than for the Stockholm- Are bid.
