THE 1/2026 meeting of the Committee on Preventing and Protecting Against the Recruitment of Underage Children into Military Service was held in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
Officials reviewed ongoing efforts to prevent the recruitment of individuals under 18 into Tatmadaw, highlighting screening measures under the People’s Military Service Law and cooperation with monitoring mechanisms.
The committee reported that suspected cases identified since 2012 had been reviewed, with only a small number still under assessment. It also noted that underage individuals mistakenly recruited during recent intakes had been returned to their families. — MNA/KZL
