Mawtinsun Pagoda to host spectacular 9,000 candles, flowers, and hot-air balloon festival

The offering of 9,000 lit candles and 9,000 flowers and a hot-air balloon festival will take place on the Thadingyut Full Moon Day at Mawtinsun Pagoda in Ngaputaw Township, Pathein District, Ayeyawady Region, as announced by the Board of Trustees.

 

On 29 October (Thadingyut Full Moon Day), 9,000 candles and 9,000 flowers will be offered to Myat Mawtin Pagoda and the hot air balloon festival will be celebrated.

 

On 30 October, there will be a ceremony for food donations to the Dragon, the original donor of the Pagoda, and his relatives.

 

U Thaung Kyi, a member of Myat Mawtin Pagoda Board of Trustees, mentioned, “Rice and other donations will be offered to 160 invited Sayadaws from 50 monasteries near the Mawtinsun Pagoda at 6 am on 29 October. In the evening, 9,000 candles will be lit, and 9,000 flowers will be offered to the Pagoda as part of the hot air balloon festival celebration.”

 

The expansion of the Myat Mawtin Pagoda square will be completed by the upcoming pagoda festival, which is scheduled from the 1st Waxing of Taboung to the Full Moon Day of Taboung. — ASH/MKKS
