THE Department of Rural Development under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development, Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, inspected the implementation of solar-powered irrigation work in Aukchaing Village, Lewe Township, yesterday.
Lewe Township Department of Rural Development Head U San Yu Hlaing and engineering staff examined the installation of a 2HP solar DC surface pump system supported by a 2.44 kW solar power system for stream water pumping, as well as fencing works being implemented in Auktchoing Village.
He also met local elders and farmers and discussed efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability of rural development activities, while also coordinating necessary arrangements based on local requirements.
A total project allocation of K9.61 million has been used for the implementation of solar irrigation and related work for the 2026-2027 financial year. The project was launched in the first week of June with technical assistance and close supervision from departmental engineers in cooperation with local villagers, and upon completion by the end of June, the project is expected to benefit a large area of farmland in the village and significantly reduce fuel costs for farmers. — Maung Khaing (Rural)
