A small plane crashed in a residential area in San Diego, California, early on Thursday morning, leaving at least two people dead and eight others injured.

The fire started by the jet fuel that spread over the crash site burned about 10 homes and multiple vehicles. About 100 residents of the neighborhood were forced to evacuate.

The plane is thought to be a model that can carry eight to 10 people, including the pilot.

There was reportedly dense fog at the time of the crash.

ABC News quoted a transport authority as saying that the plane struck a nearby power line, and this may have caused the crash.
