Two late goals scored by Nanda Kyaw and Zin Min Tun helped Shan United beat Chin United by 3-1 in their Week-8 match of the Myanmar National League, held yesterday at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon.
With the win for Shan United, the pressure is on for the top three teams: Hantharwady United, Yangon United, and Ayeyarwady United.
Yesterday’s match was an exciting one with Shan United lining up with youth players Sa Pyae Aung Ko, Ye Yint Tun, Pyae Sone Aung, and Ye Min Thu, while Chin United used main players Arkar Po, Samuel, Kyaw Min Than, and keeper Tun Aung Kyaw.
Both teams lost goal chances in the first half. It was Shan United youth player Ye Yint Tun who scored the opening goal with a long, low kick from 18 yards, and the first half ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of Shan United.
Chin United made a strong effort in the second half to equalize the goal, while Shan United relied on defensive play.
At 55 minutes, Chin United striker Sammuel managed to get the ball past several Shan United defenders to score the equalizer.
With the score reaching 1-1, Shan United changed tactics and brought in Nanda Kyaw and Shwe Ko.
The new tactics by Shan United head coach Aung Naing bore fruit, with Nanda Kyaw scoring the second goal for the team at 85 minutes. Zin Min Tun netted another goal during injury time, just before the final whistle, to bring the score to 3-1.
With the win, the defending champions are still in the fourth place on the standing table, with a 5-point difference with Hantharwady, the top team.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
