UNION Minister for Construction U Myo Thant has said that landowners whose farmland was confiscated for the development of urban area in Dagon Myothit (North) Township, Yangon Region, but who have not yet received compensation, may reapply to the relevant committee.
The Union minister made the statement in response to a starred question from U Tint Wai, Pyithu Hluttaw representative for Dagon Myothit (North) Constituency, during the 25th day of the second regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw on 17 July.
U Tint Wai asked whether there were plans to provide compensation or replacement land for farmland confiscated from four villages for the Dagon Myothit Project. In response, U Myo Thant said that the relevant ministries submit annual budget demands for compensation and that affected landowners who have not yet received compensation may apply to the Yangon Region Farmland and Other Lands Confiscation Scrutiny Committee.
The four villages, including Toekyaunggyi and Toekyaungkalay, were incorporated into the Dagon Myothit Project in 1989- 1990. Since the project began, replacement land has been allocated in Dagon Myothit (North), Dagon Myothit (East) and Dagon Myothit (South) townships. — TWA/MKKS
