Kayin New year celebrated in YGN’s National Races Village

Kayin New Year was celebrated at National Races Village, Thakayta Township, Yangon, at 5:40 am yesterday. The Kayin Literature and Culture Committee and Kayin New Year Organizing Committee cooperated on the celebration of the Kayin Year 2759.

 

Firstly, Mahn Win Khaing Than, Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw, hoisted the Kayin National Flag and Deputy Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Hla Maw Oo, Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker U Tin Maung Tun, Rakhine Ethnic Affairs Minister U Zaw Aye Maung, and Kayin Literature and Culture Committee’s honorary Patron Pado Dr Saw Tun Aung Myint rang the traditional drum. Next, the National Flag of Myanmar and the Kayin Flag were saluted followed by a documentary group photograph.

 

At 7 am, Mahn Win Khaing Than and wife Nant Kyin Kyi, U Hla Maw Oo and officials donated robes and offertories to members of the Sangha, and then offered them early morning meal. This was followed by paying obeisance to a hundred elderly Kayin, after which entertainment, including Kayin Don Yein dance, were performed.

 

Also present at the celebration were Dr Shwe Hluan, wife of Vice President U Henry Van Thio, members of the two joint-organizing committees, and invited guests.—Township IPRD  (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
