THE Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) has appointed Norwegian coach Jørn Andersen as the new head coach of the Myanmar men’s national team.

The 63-year-old former Norway international striker replaces local coach Myo Hlaing Win. Andersen has extensive coaching experience, managing clubs in Germany, Greece and Austria, including Mainz, whom he guided to promotion to the Bundesliga. He has also coached national teams including North Korea and Hong Kong, as well as clubs in South Korea and China.

MFF held the contract-signing ceremony and press conference for Andersen on 8 July at the MFF meeting hall. MFF General Secretary Tun Tun Aung and Andersen answered questions from the media after the signing.

Andersen’s first international assignment will be a friendly match against Vietnam on 18 July, followed by the ASEAN Hyundai Cup from 24 July to 26 August and the FIFA ASEAN Cup starting in September. — Nyi Myat Thawda/KZL
