Jewelry, illegal commodities seized in Maungtaw

Security personnel led by Lt-Col Aung San Win seized different kinds of jewelry and illegal goods that will smuggled into Bangladesh in Aungbala Village, Maungtaw Township in Rakhine State yesterday afternoon.

Security personnel rushed to a scene where suspicious things were discovered after they received phone information from an anonymous tipoff that four ownerless polythene bags were found beside the Naf River near Aungbala Village at around 2 p.m. on 6 May. The discovery of four polythene bags led to the seizure of 45 fishing nets, various kinds of jewelry weighing about 61 ticals and one mobile phone.

The estimated value of confiscated jewelry and illegal goods is more than Ks.  92 million and an investigation into the case is ongoing by the local police.—Thet Lwin Soe (IPRD)
