THE 2008 Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar stipulates that every citizen has the duty to undergo military training and defend the State. Those from Batch 2/2024, who voluntarily enlisted under the People’s Military Service Law and dutifully carried out national defence and regional security responsibilities in accordance with the 2008 Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, have now completed their designated service period.

Ceremonies to award certificates of completion, People’s Military Service medals, and honorary certificates to those who successfully fulfilled their duties were held yesterday at various military commands. These events were attended by the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, Chief Ministers of the regions and states, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), commanders, departmental officials, members of the security forces who had completed their military service, and their families.

At the ceremonies, the chief ministers and commanders delivered congratulatory speeches. Then, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, Chief Ministers of the regions and states, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), commanders, and relevant officials presented the servicemen with certificates of completion, insignia of people’s military service, and certificates of honour. This was followed by tea receptions and lunches hosted by the respective authorities.

Those who had completed their military service demonstrated loyalty to the State through their conduct. They were recognized for their exemplary performance, discipline and selfless service. Throughout their service, the State and Tatmadaw systematically provided them with salaries, food, benefits and other necessary support.

Civil servants who have completed their military service may, if they so wish, continue serving in Tatmadaw. Those employed in companies will be reinstated to their previous positions or appointed to similar roles, with appropriate benefits granted by the State. Employment Management Committee on Military Veterans will assist former service personnel in obtaining employment opportunities, vocational training, government jobs, and domestic or overseas company positions in cooperation with relevant ministries, the UMFCCI and overseas employment agencies.

Moreover, some individuals have voluntarily chosen to continue serving in Tatmadaw, motivated by a desire to contribute further to the defence and security of the State.

These ceremonies, held to honour citizens who have faithfully served their country, represent a meaningful recognition of their contributions. They mark a significant milestone reflecting the mutual trust and responsibility between the State and its people, and serve as a positive example for current personnel, trainees, and the younger generation. — MNA/KTZH
